A Word from Our Partners

VisioCheck is a huge time saver for our nurse partners, in part because school nurses helped to design the program.  We value our partners and work very hard to meet their needs in conjunction with delivering improved vision outcomes for students.  We are grateful for the work of our school nurses and all they do to insure the overall health and well-being for their students!
School nurses are often the primary (and sometimes only) health care provider school aged children see.  Problems with acuity of children in school continues to increase concurrent with increases seen in childhood illnesses (asthma, Type 2 diabetes, mental health concerns) and the time we have to assess and care for children is very limited on the best of days.  Anything that allows us to save time on routine issues (screenings for example) give nurses more time for the care of acute and chronic health issues.

A Salute to Our Teachers

It was a cold evening…after hours and after dark when there was a knock on the door at the Conexus office.  It was a teacher from a local school division trying to assist one of her students in getting glasses.  Her 3rd grade student had been issued glasses last year, but they were now broken.  The teacher knew that every day without glasses created a learning challenge for her student.  She knew that her student simply couldn’t learn what she couldn’t see and she took action.  Stories like these are very familiar to Conexus, and they are why we are so dedicate to our mission of eliminating undetected and untreated vision problems as barriers to success in school and life.  Good vision is so often overlooked as a component to success in school, but our teachers who work with students day in and day out see and understand the link between good vision and success in the classroom.

While the snowy, wintry weather has wreaked havoc on school schedules, the W.H.E.E.L.S. program is going strong and is in the process of making up for lost screening time.  Currently, all of our screenings that were affected by the winter weather have been rescheduled for this spring. Thanks to all of our partners for your flexibility and patience!

Hopefully tomorrow’s weather forecast will be a farewell to the winter of 2015!!

Our W.H.E.E.L.S. partners are the best, and comments like these  keep making our day!

“We love what you (W.H.E.E.L.S.) do and think it’s a wonderful resource for our students!”

It’s truly a privilege for us to be involved in a program that is so impactful to the community.  We hope that as more parents learn about the importance of healthy vision and impact on education we can reach more and more children – no child should be unsuccessful in school due to an undetected or untreated vision problem.

At Conexus we love hearing from our partners and families.  Thanks for sharing your comments about our very important programs.  80% of what a child learns in school is through vision, and 1 in 4 children has a vision problem significant enough to impact learning.  That’s why Conexus works to support children’s vision programs, helping to ensure our kids are successful in school!!
