![]() The 2016 Virginia Eye Institute sponsored Gift of Light holiday fundraiser campaign wrapped up on December 23rd after four weeks of hard work from VEI staff at all nine locations! The campaign finished with a record breaking performance, raising over $18,000 in support of Conexus children’s programs! VEI staff encouraged donations from their patients over the course of the campaign in an effort to reach fundraising goals for each of their locations. Each location that made its fundraising goal received a $50 match from all 36 Virginia Eye Institute doctors!!! 7 of the 9 locations were able to make their goals, and several well exceed their goals!!! This year’s top performer was the Watkins Center location, which outperformed the three-year champion, Forest Road, by a mere $7.26 after a herculean last day effort at the Watkins location. These locations raised nearly $1,600 in donations from their patients and staff, and Conexus could not be more grateful! Beyond bragging rights, the top performing location receives breakfast for their staff served by Virginia Eye Institute CEO, Brad Smith and Conexus President and CEO, Tim Gresham. Thank you again to the entire staff at Virginia Eye Institute for an incredible job!!!

As part of our program policies for best practice, Conexus administers a nurse survey at the conclusion of VisioCheck program delivery. Surveys were issued to the Nurse Coordinators and nurses in the 22 school divisions where VisioCheck was delivered for the 2016 “screening season”. The results, which came in quickly over the course of a week, were highly supportive of the program need, delivery, and benefit for schools and students. 100% of our nurse partners reported that VisioCheck was a time saver. “Yes, vision screenings that would have taken weeks were completed in hours." “This was a true blessing for me this year. I have over 800 students and see over 100 per day and it is a real struggle to get the mandatory screenings done. The screening that were done here at Twin Springs were far more accurate than the screenings I do. I was really happy with the outcome. Thank you SO MUCH!” 98% of our nurse partners rated VisioCheck as Very Good-Excellent program
98% of our nurse partners believe vision needs to be elevated as a health priority for students “If 25% of our children had a communicable illness we could call it a Pandemic and everyone would be on high alert with every possible thing being done to stem and correct the problem. Why don't we treat vision problems with the same urgency?” "I felt the program provided a much more accurate screening than what I can provide using a Snellen chart." Thanks so much to our nurse partners for such a prompt response and for your excellent feedback!
![]() Delivery of services connected to our groundbreaking study with VCU had three parts:
Under standard program delivery, Conexus does not typically get to see the “end result” of their work – a child getting to see their “new” world through corrected vision. However, as part of the study, we’ve been privileged to deliver glasses directly to more than 150 students, and seeing their expressions and hearing their gratitude has been one of the best gifts of the season! |
