Conexus is very fortunate to have some outstanding volunteers and supporters. While we celebrate their excellent service and generous spirit throughout the year, Christmas gives us that special time to offer just a small token of our appreciation. Throughout the month of December, Tim Gresham, Conexus President and CEO, has taken the time to visit individually and collectively with our board and committee members, as well as some of our key donors and volunteers, to let them know just how much we appreciate their year-round gift of service to Conexus. Pictured here are just a few of Tim’s visits.
For the third year, Conexus and Virginia Eye Institute have brought the Gift of Light to the Metro Richmond Zoo’s Miracle of Christmas Pageant. Supported by VEI, the campaign raises funds for Conexus’ children’s programs and culminates in the placement of luminaries at the Zoo for its annual Christmas pageant, which takes place on December 21, 22, and 23 each year. The funds raised through the campaign help support Conexus’ efforts to provide comprehensive vision programs to children throughout the year, and the luminaries help add to the beauty of the season and encourage attendees to appreciate their healthy vision and the sights of the season.
Conexus and Comcast Spotlight joined together to show support for our friends at DreamsFactory, who made a significant donation to the production of our PSA for the Eyes of The Future Campaign.
On December 16th, DreamsFactory premiered the short version of their first film, The Gift. The Hollywood Glamour -themed premier took place at Richmond’s famed Byrd Theatre, where guests got their first look at the visually stunning film. Thank you DreamsFactory for including us in your special night. We were pleased to share in your success and show our support to the DreamsFactory family as they have shown their support to the mission of Conexus. Uptown Alley provided the backdrop for Conexus’ annual staff Christmas gathering! After just two games, we quickly realized that our Screening Technician, Corrine Huber, had been hiding a secret talent! She easily swept both games and walked away the winner!!
At Conexus, we feel very blessed to have such a talented, supportive, and friendly staff! This group makes coming to work every day a pleasure, and is what allows us to be so successful in our mission! As Conexus continues its growth, reaching tens of thousands of children each year through mass screenings, the organization is convening a panel of experts to formally review and approve Conexus programs as best practice. To provide a broad , well rounded perspective of the program, the panel includes representation from the both the medical and education community and consists of two pediatric ophthalmologists, two optometrists, a representative from public health, a representative from public education, and a representative from early childhood education. The committee will be staffed by Conexus.
Panel Members:
Conexus, in partnership with Comcast Spotlight, has been working for over a year to develop a branding and messaging campaign to help the general public gain a better understanding of the role vision plays in the lives of our children.
Our eyes have the ability to communicate...to learn...to love. 80% of what our children learn in school is through vision, and 1 in 4 children has a vision problem significant enough to impact learning. At Conexus, our mission to ensure that all children reach their fullest potential by eliminating undetected and untreated vision problems as barriers to success. We hope that our message will resonate with parents and educators across the region, and that the community will respond with support for our programs — whether it be financial support, an advocate within the school system, or a voice in the General Assembly. Vision problems in children are prevalent. With all of the challenges facing our children today, from hunger to homelessness….poor vision is something we have the power to fix and change the life of a child forever! ![]() On December 3rd, the Conexus Board of Directors had their final meeting of 2015. The Board covered a lot of ground — financial and program updates, unveiling of the Eyes of the Future Campaign and website, promotion of the VEI-sponsored Gift of Light Campaign, nomination and voting for our newest Board Member, Danny Singer (VSP), and the announcement of the formation of the new Conexus Expert Panel. Conexus has been very blessed to have had such a full and productive first year, which in large part is through the supportive leadership of such an engaged and dynamic Board of Directors! |
