The Gift of Light is a holiday fundraising campaign. $5 luminaries are being sold across the Richmond Metro Region and online right here. All proceeds support Conexus programs for children, and the luminaries will be donated to the Metro Richmond Zoo’s 12th Annual Miracle of Christmas live nativity! Last year thousands of luminaries lit the pathways for all 3 nights of the annual Christmas pageant, creating a spectacular sight for the nearly 8,000 visitors. Bon Secours awarded $25,000 to Conexus to provide our comprehensive screening program, VisioCheck, in the 28 schools of the Catholic Diocese of Richmond. Schools in the Diocese extend from the Hampton Roads area to Bristol, VA. Over the course of the next few months, the program will provide services to over 3,000 children in PK, K, 3rd, 7th, and 10th grades. Conexus is very pleased to continue this program in its third year, supporting the vision needs of children in the Catholic Diocese of Richmond. To learn more about our programs, click here.
Both the Prevent Blindness Mid-Atlantic and Conexus Boards met on Friday afternoon to vote on the historic move for the organization. Both boards voted unanimously to merge PBMA to Conexus effective December 1, 2014. This marks the end of a nearly two-year process for PBMA and sets the wheels in motion for Conexus to officially move forward on behalf of children’s vision in the region and even the nation. A special thanks to all of our Board leadership and especially our friends at Hunton & Williams who have worked so tirelessly to bring us to this exciting new chapter.

Conexus will attend the Virginia Association of School Nurses annual meeting tonight to share information about the availability of VisioCheck programs across the region and also promote the organizational changes of Conexus and the 4th Annual Sip for Sight! We are so grateful for our partnerships with schools and nurses across the Commonwealth, and are eager to share all the new benefits of our programs and services. A special thanks to School Health, who is sponsoring the VASN dinner this year and has graciously invited Conexus to share presentation time and space through their generous sponsorship!
This week the Conexus Communications Committee held its first official meeting. The very engaged group, chaired by the energetic Julie Bragg, WTVR 6 evening anchor, was charged with the task of supporting the branding and communication efforts of Conexus. A powerful brainstorming session resulted in some exciting strategic efforts to be tied in with several upcoming events – especially our holiday giving campaign, The Gift of Light. We are fortunate to have some of the area’s most experienced and seasoned professionals join the committee and look forward to sharing more information in the weeks to come!
