Conexus joins with the Essilor Vision Foundation to deliver a full service program to elementary students in Alexandria and Washington, DC. Nearly 3,400 students in 19 schools were screened through VisioCheck, the comprehensive technology based Conexus run program. Screening reports for all students receiving the program will begin to go home next week. The reports not only include detailed results of their child’s screening, but also include educational information for parents about the importance of healthy vision for their children and families. Over 850 students were identified as having a potential vision problem. Their reports (in 95% of the cases) will come with an invitation to participate in the Essilor Vision Foundation’s mobile clinic. The mobile clinic will be visiting select locations in Alexandria and DC from October 14-17 and over the course of those 4 days will provide onsite eye exams and same day glasses to close to 200 children!! This collaborative pilot was generously sponsored by Vision Council and outcomes will be used to support the advancement for children’s vision services nationwide. On September 17th schools across Virginia from Loudoun to Montgomery to Hampton worked to raise funds to support Conexus school based programs. Conexus provides a network of services to over 1,800 nurses and school throughout Virginia offering programs to over 370,000 students each year. Conexus works to provide programs to our partners at a free or very reduced cost and all fundraising activity goes directly to support that effort. Click her to learn more about the Sip for Sight.
